At Alpha Phi Alpha – Xi Psi Lambda Chapter, we are dedicated to academic excellence and community impact. Our scholarship programs provide financial support to outstanding students who demonstrate leadership, service, and a commitment to education.

Available Scholarships

Dr. Lionel E. McMurren Scholarship

This scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Lionel E. McMurren, recognizing students who exhibit academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement.
  • Award: $2,000 per student
  • Recipients: 7 students

Samuel E. Massenburg Sr. STEM Scholarship

This scholarship supports STEM-focused students, encouraging excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
  • Award:$2,500 per year for 3 years (Total: $7,500)
  • Recipients: 1 students

Scholarship Application Instructions

Dear Student,
Please complete all sections of the application by clicking here to apply for the Alpha Phi Alpha Foundation of Manasota, Inc. Scholarship.

You must provide the following information with your online application: a resume, photo, 2 references (one teacher and one guidance counselor), essay, and permission to use your name and to publicize being a scholarship recipient.

Student Eligibility:

  1. Must be a senior student enrolled in a Manatee or Sarasota County high school.
  2. Must be an African American or Hispanic Male.
  3. Must complete the application online by 4/15 (incomplete or late applications will not be accepted).
  4. Must provide a transcript, resume, essay, quality photo, and permission to use his name and publicize being a scholarship recipient with the application.
  5. Must provide one reference from a school counselor and one recommendation from a teacher.
  6. The resume must include evidence of leadership through work, school, or community service. The essay should include the need for financial assistance.
  7. Must present proof of admission into a two or four-year college or Technical/ Trade School in the US for the upcoming fall semester prior to receiving the award.
